Transfer

I have a Toshiba laptop with Vista Basic on it. The HD is a 160Gb and I want to upgrade to a 320Gb. Could I use something like PC Mover to transfer everything to the new hard drive and then put the new drive in the laptop?
I do not have an install disc with the laptop.

You should be able to use the free trial version of Acronis for this. If you have use Acronis before you may have to buy the program. Link.

you can also go to the new harddrives manufacturers website and download a utility that willl do this for you. That is if you did not get a cd with then new harddrive. If you got a cd, then the utility should be on it.

I have tried both options with no luck. Acronis did not do it and this is the same program that the HD manufacturer uses.

since we are not sitting in front of your computer, you need to tell us the exact steps you are doing and what errors you are getting. In addition,if you are not putting the drive in the very same computer that you are cloning it will not work. Also what drive manufacturer and model is it? Finally what laptop model.

did you download acronis from western digital? If not try their version. Sometimes there are minor changes in the software for specific drives.

Please give the model number of your toshiba satellite.
