None of my (optional) updates are installing
I'm trying to install the optional updates from windows update, but none of them will install. Once I click the install button, it acts as if its downloading, but it continues to say "0 kb total, 0% complete". Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks. |

Hi Ken. I'm out of touch with Windows Update issues but if no-one else responds to your request for help, you can lodge a free Windows Update support incident request here. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Is there any way I can update my graphics card without windows update?

Sure. Do you have a brand name computer? If so, what make and model?

Well, it's an emachine, and where do I check for the make and model?

eMachine is the brand. The model should be somewhere on the tower.

...Tower? I see T5234 but I'm not sure if thats what you're asking. I'm not very computer savvy.

Yes, that's it but I just checked their downloads and they only offer the original nVidia driver (see here). Are you having problems with your graphics card? If so, what model card do you have? Have a look in Control Panel > Device Manager. What do you see when you click on the plus sign next to Display Adapters.

NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 430 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) and an option to update, should I try that?
*EDIT*-I'm trying to update it to play a game. Last edited by Ken Halo; July 2nd, 2008 at 08:43 AM. |

This driver should do the trick. Set a restore point before you install it (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Click on "Open System Protection" and follow the prompts). The installation instructions are on the page.

Hmm, I don't think that that was a graphic card update, but I tried it anyway, and it didn't work.
By the way, thanks for the help. EDIT-I figured it out, but I may as well keep the other driver. thanks for all the help, and if you find out whats wrong with windows updates, please tell me. Last edited by Ken Halo; July 2nd, 2008 at 09:46 AM. |

Hi Ken, no you have onboard video and that's what the update was for. Your best option for resolution of the Windows Update issue is to contact Microsoft for free support using the link I posted for you.
