one care .live .com is a microsoft tuning tool that I find good and reliable.
Ccleaner is also another tool that I consistently use for system deep cleaning.

http://www.piriform.com/ Get Ccleaner and Defraggler both. Use the registry tool that comes with ccleaner and it will help clean out lost of junk in the registry. Defraggler does a much better job at Defragging your Hard drive than the Windows defrag.

You can also use add remove programs to uninstall programs you've installed but don't use,
while there you can also turn off some windows features that you don't use.
