Slow DSL speeds - modem?

Have been having problems with slow ATT DSL speeds. Signed up for up to 3mb service but have been getting just .25mb or at times .50mb. Have used ATT diagnostics tool and at times cannot connect at all. When I can connect, tool doesnt tell me anything. Have an Actiontec DSL modem. Is it possible for a modem to fail intermittently or to run slow speeds?

Issues with contacting ATT. Put on hold forever, give up out of frustration.

Looking for a starting point to fix. Thanks

Unfortunately, I'd have to say that AT&T is one of your starting points. One factor affecting DSL speed is line quality and AT&T are the best bet for determining that.

And yes modems can start failing affecting speed and reliability.

Have you checked what logs are available on the modem and if they indicate a problem?
