Hi Mastersplinter,

I did what you asked...as follows :

Still had problems with the hostfix, even after opening an elevated command prompt, I was still getting the error code 2738.

Tried to run the scan with the TFC but it would scan for a good while but then suddenly stopped saying "TFC has stopped working, a problem caused the program to stop working correctly" (tried this twice)

One thing I have noticed though, my computer does seem to be working 20 times faster since uninstalling AVG (I've stayed with Avast)

Cheers

Ian

Re-run TFC.exe as admin you most likely have a build up of temp files.
Please also post a fresh minitool box for me to look at please.

The system is infected. May want to consider opening a request in the Malware Removal Forum, then maybe follow up back here, if needed.

Just to interfere I wonder if there is enough system left to run anything?

I have lots of thoughts on slow systems but not enough knowledge to be accurate, two things stand out to me one is Windows Defender which I have found grabs a high resource load and I only run it on my request not scheduled plus it is advisable to not scan its own file folder (which annoys itself). Second (I will be told off I am sure ) but AVG is now a huge bit of software compared to its earlier beginnings I run Avast which is lighter filling in with other software scans as required but I do respect AVG's extra features.

My only other biased thought is Vista, bloated and top heavy (fit max memory and set for performance in its system settings) upgrade to Win7?
