XP Service Pack 1 aborts during install
I'm having a problem trying to install Windows XP service pack 1 update. It does not matter if I do via the web or run the network install, It starts ok but after a short while the update program closes and an error message pops up "service pack 1 setup is cancelled"
Any ideas? Thanks, rtiger54 |

Is it aborting during download or when it is installing. If it does it will installing you XP could have an illegal key code.In which case it will not allow you to run SP1

It is aborting during install. This is a Dell dimension 8100. It came with xp on the system so I would not think it is an illegal code. It did have a severe infestation of spyware, worms and viruses. I used spybot, sysclean, adaware, spware blaster, cwshreader and hijackthis in my efforts to remove it. A particularly stubborn item has been tvm.exe. It also had an unbootable boot partition blue screen when I first started messing with it. I used the recovery console and chkdsk /p, then ran fixboot to repair that problem.
How can I find out if it is an illegal code or if it is incorrectly activated? Last edited by rtiger54; June 23rd, 2004 at 04:39 AM. Reason: Add more info |
