Computer wont boot past screen saying press f1

for setup and f10 for recovery setup. It then says a disk read error occurred press Ctrl, alt, del to restart. Tried f10 and it wont boot to that screen either.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Tracy

Ps dont have a recovery disk because its on a partition on my computer.

Go into setup or bios and reset defaults to optimum then F10 and reboot. If that doesn't do it you will need to buy an XP cd so you can run the repair function. Too bad manufacturers aren't forced to give you a Windows Cd. of course prices on stock products would have to go up $200, but then what did you save by letting them get away with that?

Exactly right bhupen. I guess it fractures me when brand names sell these promotional "junkers" where adding a copy of Windows XP, that any shop builder would have to do, would price these machines beyond the reach of the average buyer, but the buyer never realizes how they are screwed, just eventually that they are. No XP CD, crappy motherboards (everything buyer cannot physically see is crap but hang a "Sony" cd rom logo and they are fooled into thinking this "junker" is quality), $3 floppy drive or worse yet none at all, generic ram, generic hard drive...all things that "lurk" inside the case of HP, Gateway, Dell, Sony etc....but the home shop builder, viewed by most as an expensive "thief", uses only brand name components and with all that his prices are only slightly higher.
