Question If You Know Anything About Laptops, Please Help!!!!

Im looking into purchasing a laptop. I started off with Dell, and then moved on and started sizing up Sony, then it hit me.......I have no idea what to buy. Im looking for someting fast and powerful with A LOT of memory for storing lot's of music, movies, photos and school work. It would have to be very good for multimedia(watching DVD's, playing games, listening to music, etc.). It would be preferable if it could burn CD's and DVD's with all those different formats. Wireless internet components aren't a big deal because where I live the only option available is dial-up, so a phone cord jack thing is manditory. Also USB ports and headphone/speaker jacks are a must. It would be preferable if it was in the price range of $1500 - $2000's.......because im only 15 years old. Well anyone that can offer me help, it's greatly appreciated.

thats kinda funny, 2 Jeffs buying a new laptop... except I already got mine.
for about $816, I got the ACER Aspire 3000 from Circuit city, which is before the $200 mail in rebate. since the offer is over, you would have to pay full price.

Good things about laptop:
512 mb RAM - generous amount for the price
60 gb hard drive - also generous for the price(most have around 40)
1.8 ghz processor - again, generous for price. most i have seen have <1.5

bad things:
no phone modem. i guess you could always buy an external one, if they exist. you'll have plenty of money left afttewards anyways... I had a $1000 budget

OR you could stick with a desktop until the notebook prices go down, and you start working to buy an even better laptop for less. <--my advice

edit: it actually does have a phone modem
