Connecting laptop at work

I found a router not being used here and plugged the e cable into it and into my work desktop and my laptop. Both computers then went offline, and my macbook said something about a "personal ip". Just wondering what I would have to do to bypass this.

talk to your company's IT department or whoever is charge of the network.
