Ubuntu Wireless Connection

Hello all, we're trying to connect my friend's Dell Inspiron Mini 9 (Ubuntu) to a wireless home network for Internet use and it's not working at all. We've had it working through the wire with two different wireless routers and also using the Wi-Fi connection in our University's Library, but no luck with home hub Internet. The wireless connection control usually finds the network but when the passkey is entered it never does anything more than 'connecting'.

Can anyone help? More information can be given as needed.

Many thanks!

Are you selecting the correct key type? (WEP/WPA, key bit length)

The card that has the code on it simply says "Wireless Key" and I'm pretty sure we tried selecting each type of code and inputting the one given.

Cheers!

What kind of wireless router is it? I have experienced problems with many older linksys routers that would appear to be online, but in a "locked" state that would not allow new connections until the device had been power-cycled. A firmware update fixes this problem.

Aside from this, how many digits is the wireless key? Is it all numbers, letters, or a mixture? Is it hexidecimal? (if it is hex, only the numbers 0-9 and letters A-F will be used)

No idea how, but it suddenly started working and connects on start-up now. We just kept trying to connect and it finally decided to work. Many thanks for the help anyway!
