Linux was created so that Linus Torvalds could remotely dial into his University UNIX computer.
Next that he wanted to add the ability to move files from his university account to his own computer and back again. After a while Linus published and it sort of grew from their. You may want to read "Just for Fun", its co-authored by Linus himself and thats where I got my Info from. For an equivilent book about Richard Stallman read Free as in Freedom (best biography title ever!), its published for free on the internet too. http://www.oreilly.com/openbook/freedom/ Both books make for some good reading Last edited by Tortanick; January 15th, 2007 at 11:46 PM. |
