Welcome

What has prompted the question?

People have many reasons.
It could be basically that they want different Operating Systems on one computer.

This could be a mix of Win98, XP and Linux for example.

Or maybe they want an Operating System to test programs with, so not to clutter up their main OS.

I was multibooting Linux and XP Pro for a while. The reasoning behind this is I wanted to learn how to use Linux but I didn't want to dedicate a whole computer to it.
At school we have a computer that has Win2k and Win98 on it. This is because when students bring in floppy disks at home that were formatted on Win98 machines, for whatever reason, they usually won't open on our XP and 2K machines. Thus we can use our normal security policies on 2K, but be able to get into 98 when we need it.

Well.. i was running 2 OS on one computer also, WIN98 and WINXP, cause on xp all of those battle.net games like starcraft/diablo2 gets lagy and slow after 2-3 hours playing and i get a bad ping. But if i run those games on WIN98 it runs very good with good ping doesnt matter how long i play. And that is the biggest advantage against other players on games a good ping .

One benefit that I have seen from multi booting is that if your main boot partition fails, you can still get into the computer and use it by booting to the second partition instead.

Whether this allows you to fix the problem with the first partition on not depends on the error, but if you need to recover it from a recent backup, still being able to boot right back into windows makes this really easy.
