CD/DVD Combo Drive Won't Read CDs
Hey guys,

I just discovered this problem today when I attempted to reinstall some old software from a CD. It simply does not recognise that there is a CD in the drive. I've tried numerous CDs and nothing seems to work. It will run DVDs though.

I tried updating the firmware to version 1.05. No luck. I also tried uninstalling the drive and letting windows reinstall it. No luck either.

I have the LG GCC-4521 Combo DVD/CD drive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Clean it with a cd/dvd lens cleaner disk. If that doesn't fix the problem it is possible the lasers for the cd read have gone out. There are different lasers inside, one for reading cds, and one for reading dvds.
