Kanotix
Kanotix
KANOTIX is a Linux live CD based on Knoppix technology using Debian/sid. The included XFree86 is from Debian/experimental. The main specs are: GRUB based startup from CD, ACPI support, DMA default on, additional support for DSL modems (Fritz!Card DSL and Eagle USB), optimal for HD install (you get a working Debian/sid install in about 10 minutes!), kernel forcedeth (for nForce NIC), device mapper and some other patches. |

Is suse live cd version an evolution version?
Yes, it cannot be installed to your hard disk so it is an evaluation version. No limits in terms of how often or how many different PCs you can use it on though. |

knoppix live
I just received the knoppix live cd distribution
To run it entirely on cd, do I need to do anything special to my computer, or do I just go ahead and run it? |

I use Kubuntu now after years with Mandrake/Mandrive and then doing a recent "Distro Dance". Its aim is to be user friendly, just like Mandriva. But its advantages to me are:
1. Much much faster. Mandriva is slow as they come 2. .deb package management using apt-get and Adept as a GUI frontend is flawless. So fast to update the system. Never have any problems with it compromising the system like RPM's do when they go wrong, and they do go wrong. I am looking forward to the new Dapper release, should be really starting to make computing with Linux the easiest way to use a computer. |

You had it correct. I installed it, and like it! I am suffering from "mad windows disease" and it has ruined my brain for installing programs. How do I install a wireless network and new programs on ubuntu? Thanks for the help!

In Kubuntu use Adept, as I mentioned. A nice KDE frontend for apt-get

The Linux version I use is Ubuntu, I've used Knoppix from time to time but I found Ubuntu alot easier to use.

Ubuntu v7.04 downloads as an ISO file and is supposed to be able to be run from the DVD.
