movie image quality in win2000 pro

hello all

i am in desperate need for help. i upgraded from 98se to win2kpro. i installed service pack 3, directx8.1b and made sure all the drivers were the latest win2000 drivers for all my hardware. i then installed the nimo codec pack , which includes divx3, 4 and 5, ms mpeg4, ffdshow codecs and a load more. the problem im having is that when i play movies the image quality is terrible. the frame rates are smooth but the image is really blocky and it all looks like a really low quality JPEG. this happens in windows media player (version 7.1) and powerdvd and windvd. when i play a dvd from the dvd drive the picture quality still isnt what it should be. i have the hardware acceleration up to full.

also, what file defines what codec is used for each movie type like in the system.ini [drivers32] on windows 98se?

my system is:
ASUS A7V266-e motherboard
Creative SOundblaster live! (with 2000 drivers)
Geforce 3
256MB DDR RAM
2x Matrox ATA-100 40GB HDD
Creative DVD player
Memorex 24MAXXX cd burner

I don't know much but see if there is a setting on the image quality.

Unhappy

The same thing happen to me, the problem is that 2000 is not as good a multi-media as 98. 2000 is doing a lot more in the background and without a super fast Pc and great graphics card you are stuck. The only way that I managed to get performance any better was to bring the resolution down. I have moved to XP and it is a bit better.
