Thinking of re-installing windows XP~ some advice on doing this please from anyone.

Hi there.

Due to major problems with PC- blue screen, no available safe mode, and possible trojan work, I think the only available solution left is to uninstall windows XP service pack 2 ( which Im not impressed with by the way) and uninstall Norton Internet Security AntiSpy version ( with Im disgusted with by the way)
And re install windows Xp service pack2 (since thats all I have).

How is the best way to go about doing this please? Making sure that all the current probllems I have with PC are gone for good.

And a suggested BEST on the market Antivirus internet antispy program software I can get my hands on, that will not cause me to have to worry about what is going to find its way into my darn computer again.

Expert advice will be highly and sincerely appreciated, Thanks.

P.S~ wish to do this asap as I can not tollerate this blue screen any longer.
I am at the point of tossing the entire computer outside.

if it was me I'd back up my data files, pics, music etc onto cds or dvds. Then I'd put the windows cd in and boot(restart) the pc, I'd format and reinstall OS from scratch. Then after that I'd go to windows update and get sp2. Antivirus, norton works fine, but if you don't care for nortons get avg free at grisoft.com

Backup what's important for files...set bios to boot order where cdrom is 1 or 2, then boot to cd and delete partition and create new one with NTFS formatting.
For antivirus, best for "virus in the wild"(misnomer means known virus) at
best known testing site VB100, Nod32 for the last 16 years, when Avg failed to pass all but last 2 years, the first of which passed only for XP, and not for 98, me or 2000. I would not want to leave fate of my ship with free antivirus, afterall my pc wasn't free!
I also think to try to use one program for viirus and spyware is by it's name a mistake. I use Spywareblaster to keep out spyware and Spybot to catch and scan what it does not (which is seldom anyting) and they are free by contributory donation if you like.
That is what I put on client's machines and I never go back for spyware or virus problems ever! You can Google Nod32, Spywareblaster and Spybot. You will not regret it.
