My WD 320 gig not working properly

Hi,

I have this 320 gig of external hard disk, when I bought it, it was working perfectly, and for the past 3 to 4 months it's been acting up. We have a desktop at home, I am able to transfer my files from desktop to hard disk, and i also have my macbook, so there are certain files that i want to transfer from my laptop to my hard disk to free some space on the laptop, and there it always says "disk cannot be modified, and when I checked it it says it is write protected but it is working well on the desktop which has windows xp...i am able to transfer files from desktop to hard disk. Whenever I try to use the hard disk on my laptop all I could do is access those files that I have saved but I could not transfer anything from laptop to hard disk. Whenever I checked it on the desktop which has Windows XP is is working good, it doesn't show that it is write protected.

What should I do?
What do you think is the problem?

Is there something wrong from using just one hard disk to a desktop and a laptop?
I have already tried reformatting the hard disk couple of times, but it didn't do any good at all. I have already check everything in my macbook as well, but nothing changes. So I am kinda frustrated...

I am looking forward for your answer and hoping that you might be able to help me resolve my problem with my hard disk, your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

There are three types of disk formats...

NTFS - Windows format. Windows can read and write to the disk. Macs can read, but not write to this format.

FAT32 - Universal format. Both Windows and Macs can read and write to this format.

HFS+ - Mac format. Windows doesn't see this format at all. Macs can read and write to it.

Sounds like your drive is formatted as NTFS. In order to use it on both systems, you need to back up EVERYTHING on the hard disk and reformat it to FAT32.
