Taylor Swift???

I get it that I am an old timer, but what's the affinity to Taylor Swift?

The songs are meh. You do not forget Beyonce or Adele or Bob Dylan when hearing the lyrics. The singing is meh. Ok, the bar is high with Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey in the distance, but Taylor's squeaky voice isn't even in their ballpark. The backing band is meh. The outfits were cuter at 25 than now at 35.

Are the songs pop or country? Why aren't they on the radio?

Is there some fantastic stage show? Is it that she is famous for being generous with the roadies, and if so, does that make up for selling her masters for $330m https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.c...ing-the-money/ and then rerecording all of it to sound virtually exactly the same and undermine the buyer's assets? https://www.vox.com/culture/22278732...-scooter-braun

Can we have a new day with actually talented bands and vocalists?

Spoken like a true old geezer. Next, you'll be telling kids to get off your lawn and yelling at clouds

Taylor is hugely talented. The kids she sang to in their 20's are still fans, now in their 40's ($$ power). She's a credible pianist and guitarist. Watch her 'Tiny Desk' concert on youtube for some perspective. Her songs are all OVER the radio. I can't name one, because I'm not a fan. But she dominates certain airwaves.

All that said, she's a genius business woman. Better singers? By the dozens. Better songwriters? You bet. Lots. Richer performers? ....well, nope. Elvis in his heyday wasn't worth a quarter of her wealth. By a long shot.

I don't listen to her music. It's elevator/department store music to me. But zillions of 'Swifties' gobble up everything she does. Good for her.

Well TN you have at least one other who agrees with you, unlike Zip. see https://variety.com/2024/music/globa...st-1235972405/

However as the speaker is also in the business I expect there is a component of professional jealousy involved. But from ticket sales for her tour thru Australia, she does seem to have a following, but that doesn't include me.

I'm with Zip, wouldn't know one of her songs even if it was played on huge loudspeakers outside my house. The Stones, Beatles, Beach boys, Bee Gees and the like, right up to Abba I understand, since then, life has started to pass me by.
