Fatal Execution Engine Error (0x7927f26e)

I am operating windows XP on a dell inspirion laptop
my problem started when DVD's would no longer play ( all other sound is OK) I can only see a black screen.
I deleted windows media player v11 and the probelm was still the same using dells cineplayer which was installed with the laptop.

I have restored the laptop to an earlier date this didnt work I have now tried to resore back to the current date and I recieve the message.
