No, the hosts file is fine and I dont see any evidence of malware. No antivirus software installed though so you are taking risks. Especially as I see you are a Limewire user.

The only clue in your logs are some errors recorded just before one of the crashes.

Quote:
Error - 7/21/2009 3:09:18 PM | Computer Name = Terry-PC4 | Source = nvlddmkm | ID = 11141134
Description =
This points to an issue with your graphics card/driver. Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and run this way for a day or two (restart your computer and tap F8 continuously as it restarts). Do you still get lockups and do you lose your connection?

I will try the safe mode.

The problem is that the lock-ups dont happen everyday.

oh and the limewire was installed a few days ago and then immediately un-installed.

never used it. My gf was trying to use it and i refused to let her.

In that case someone has reinstalled it. Check in Programs and Features.

Windows loads a generic video driver in Safe Mode so I thought it might be an viable alternative to swapping out your card although you could do that if you wish.

Ok. Now to determine if the problem is caused by third party software or a driver. Cleanboot your machine and run this way for a day or two (see here, Step 1: Perform a clean boot). Any lockups?

im starting to get a better understanding of this i think.

The lock ups only occur consistently if im playing a video game it seems, although it can happen by just leaving my computer on overnight on occasion.

How can i help narrow this down for you without having to spend days waiting for it to lock up while i have no internet connection?

For now, i'll do what you have asked and follow those steps, and i am gonna spend the whole day tomorrow playing my video games in offline mode(since ill be disabling my connection) to see if i can get it to crash with specific drivers running like the instructions say.

Ill be back here on Thursday or Friday depending on work hours.

thanks again for your help. I very much appreciate your time.

You are welcome. You dont have disable your Internet connection. In fact it would be preferable if you didnt. The purpose of the cleanboot state is to see if any third party software might be causing the problem so you really need to be able to get online. Just disable your startups and non microsoft services as per the link I posted.

Ok. No need to persist if the lockups still occur.

Are you still in a cleanboot state? Can you please run OTL.exe again and just post the Extras logfile.
