I dont see the Norton entry in that log but I might have to doublecheck that.

Before I do this, try resetting the TCP/IP protocol. Perhaps there is some corruption. Generally this would cause connection issues but not always.

Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click on the Start button and type cmd.exe in the Start Search box. Cmd.exe will appear at the top of the Menu. Rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Copy and paste the below string after the prompt> and hit Enter.

netsh int ip reset

Reboot and let me know if this made any difference.

Annmarie, It has been over a hour now and my network status icon has not changed. The reset seems to have made it worse.

I was going to suggest an inplace upgrade installation but that is out of the question if you dont have a Vista DVD. The only other suggestion I can make is to run the System File Checker to replace any corrupted or missing system files.

Click on the Start orb and type cmd.exe in the Start Search box. Rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Once the Command Prompt opens, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and hit Enter. The System File Checker will start. It might take a while to complete so be patient.

Reboot when it has completed and let us know if this helped. If not, the only other suggestion I can make that doesnt involve backing up your data and restoring to factory default is to post a new topic in the Networking Forum and see if someone there has seen this issue before.

Well I ran that check and the sfc scan came back ok. I also turned on boot logging and looking at that log the first five errors in this order are -

Did not load driver @nettun.inf,%6to4mp.displayname%;Microsoft 6to4 Adapter
Did not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
Did not load driver @nettun.inf,%isatap.displayname%;Microsoft ISATAP Adapter
Did not load driver @nettun.inf,%tunmp.displayname%;Microsoft Tun Miniport Adapter
Did not load driver @hal.inf,%acpiapic.devicedesc%;ACPI x86-based PC

I am not sure if that helps but thought I would share, the log is extremely long! I think because it seems to be trying to load those drivers over and over again as a result the log is like a mile long.

My bootlog has the same entries so I would have to say they are not related to your problem.

I am sorry Jasonviper but I am out of ideas and can not add any more than I said in my previous post.

Thanks Annmarie I really appreciate you helping me out. I tried one more thing , I created a new user and the new user does not seem to have the issue I am not quite sure what that means but I really dont want to have to do a factory reset because the pc is not bery old at all.

Ah, well I can help you with this development. It seems that your profile has corrupted. This can be fixed. See here.

Thanks AnnMarie for the new suggestion I have been at work all day so I havnt been able to copy the files to the new user but this time when I logged in and it gave me an error message which said something like "Logon process has failed to create security options dialog". Could that be related to why its holding up some of my drivers or services?

It's more likely to be another symptom of a corrupted profile. Do you get this error when you log on to the new account?
