Only part of external HD being recognised
Need some help guys:

I have just swithched on and my ext HD (1TB) which I use for backup, is only showing 20Gb, which is the mirror of the Recovery partition on my internal HD (also 1 TB). There is no sign of anything else - the backup files of my HD.

I have tried re-starting etc. I am running Win 7 Home Premium.
Any ideas please?

Right click "My Computer" then "Manage". left pane "Disk Management" shows all your drives, does it show the external drive full capacity?

Thanks Murf, when I do that it produces:

Disk 0 = Boot (C: ) & Recover (D: )
Disk 1 = Boot & Recover (G: )
Boot (C: ) has 617Gb spare and Boot has 214GB free.

So it appears that the partition is visible, but doesn't have a drive letter.
Does this explain why I can't see it in 'Computer', and if so what can I do to correct this?

I've attached a sample (mine) of what you should see

Under Disk 0 it should tell you:

Capacity
Free Space
% Free
Under the lower page it shows the drive (total Space) on the left then it breaks down Unallocated, Healthy ect.

Under DISK 1 what does it show???? Which is drive G: should be your external drive.

Under Disk 1 it shows:
Disk 1 Basic 931.51GB Online Boot 911.49GB NTFS Healthy (Active Primary Partition) Recover (G: ) 20.32 Healthy (Logical Drive)

Above this is:
Disk 0 Basic 931.51GB Online Boot (C: ) 911.49GB NTFS Healthy (System Boot Page File Active Primary Partition) Recover (D: ) 20.32 Healthy (Logical Drive)

Both of your drives appears to be mirrored. Disk one has no drive letter, as an external drive when plugged in Windows should assign it a drive letter.

Boot 911.49GB NTFS Healthy (Active Primary Partition)- No drive letter
Scroll down past your DVD/CDROMs is the external listed may have a drive letter like "H" or "I" and be listed under your cdroms.

No Murf theres nothing else there - Disk 1 used to have a drive letter (F) but this seems to have gone awol.

Also, I have just tried the ext drive on my laptop and the two partitions (with drive letters) are showing ok.

Any ideas? Also thanks for the help.

Thanks Murf, I have re-allocated a new drive letter and fixed it - thanks again.
