Are these useful tweaks?
I consider this the best place to get Windows XP help, tips and tricks, etc.
I just found this page and I'm wondering if any of these tweaks really will help my system, or if any are really harmful changes disguised as "tweaks". http://forum.newzmonster.com/index.p...pages&pg=tweak |

All of those seem like legitimate hacks, with the exception being
1) The one for fine tuning system memory (not illegitimate, just likely more trouble than it's worth) 2) Disabling the XP CD burner (if you want to use it, and I doubt it uses any resources just by being enabled) 3) Some of those services that are suggested to be disabled may be useful on average, but most of them I would keep enabled (especially Automatic Updates, Wireless Zero, Universal P&P Device, Fast User Switching, just to name a few) And as always, only edit the if you know what you're doing, know the advantages/disadvantages and risks involved, and be sure to back it up first. Also, the performance gained by any sort of tweaking is only minimal. As one of our members Rich M will tell you, the only really good tweak is to upgrade things like the RAM or CPU. |
