Hardest problem ever encountered...
I'm about to tear my hair out.... I'm A+ certified, been working with computers since I was 10, and I have NEVER had this much trouble with a problem.
I've searched the internet for about 6 hours, it's 3 in the morning now. Here's the problem: Earlier today I was about to play counterstrike after calling the cox communications guys to fix my cable modem packet leakage.......... when suddenly out the blue I couldn't use my keyboard. I've tested it, and it works in dos and before windows loads up, but the driver itself is corrupt or something. I think PestPatrol did this, because it asked me to delete a couple files......... one of which was an .exe file and was in the C:\windows directory so................................................ .......... PLEASE GIMME SOME HELP >< oh and I've already reinstalled the driver, disabled it and reenabled it, checked windowsupdate etc. just in case you try to tell me that crap lol. It's gotta just be the driver... I can turn on and off the caps lock right up until it loads windows. is there some type of generic keyboard driver I can download or something?

If you think a system file was deleted, try running sfc / scannow and see if that helps. If not, have you checked to see if your keyboard will work in Safe Mode?

well somehow I could hit F8 and get to safe mode... even scroll through the list with my keyboard, but couldn't use it in safe mode...
when i run SFC it just brings up a dos window and closes it. I would use cmd and see what it says but umm... char map doesn't work with dos windows |

sfc /scannow should generate a dialogue box asking you to wait while Windows checks all protected files are intact and in their original condition. It might be worthwhile having a look at your startups. Go here and download and run Startup List. It will generate a log file. Copy the log and paste it back into this thread.

hi
you could use EXT.EXE or EXTRACT.exe boot from 98 cdrom, or to DOS, or from a windows 98 start disk, or from 98 EBD ...you gotta have access to the cabinets, and with cdrom support, you would have access... using EXT (quite easy to use) or EXTRACT you can extract hidvkd.sys to windows\system32\drivers\hidvkd.sys hidparse.sys to windows\system32\drivers\hidparse.sys hidclass.sys to windows\system32\drivers\hidclass.sys |
