Half Life 2

System Stats:

SONY VAIO
XP Professional
Service Pack 2
P4 2Ghz
7Gigs of free space on C Drive, 4 Gigs on D Drive.
1Gig RAM
Graphics: ATI RADEON x700 256MB

Ive bought HL2 a while back, it always worked fine, a few tiny stutters lasting about 3 seconds.

I hadn't played it in a while, I tried to play it tonight and it just kept freezing and not coming back! I rebooted 4 times. Also it was extremely slow loading in comparison to what it used to!

I don't know why it's slower now when it was fine before or why it has started freezing only minutes into gameplay.

I have read the other thread on this forum although it was no help as I have enough RAM to run it.

Can anyone help?

Sorry yes it is, it's not for multiplayer, it's just when you play through the game from begining to end as a single player.

Have you defragged your hard drive recently? If not go to start/all programs/accessories/system tools/disk defragmentor. Anaylise the hard drive and it will tell you whether you need to do it or not. Personally I defrag about once a month or more depending on the state of the hard drive.

Thank you for your replies.

When it crashes the game freezes but then keepers "stuttering", meaning it's like a skipping cd, the sounds keep repeating itself over and and over again aswell as the picture on the screen. It's like it's trying to play normally but cant.

I have been running all the spyware and virus scans I can (qute a few) and it says their are no problems.

I am not sure about the sound card. It's a top of the range laptop that I got in Novemeber.

I will try defragging my computer and see if it helps.
