Windows Vista 32 bit and 64 bit Windows Seven in 2 partitions

Hi. I was wondering if I was able to have 2 partitions. I have Windows Vista SP2 32 Bit. I know my computer is capable of 64 bit (Quad Core) and I was wondering how can I make a separate partition for Windows 7 7600 64 bit? Can I have 2 separate OS's 32 and 64 or must it be all the same?

Hi and welcome to CTH.
Yes you can have mixed operating systems (I have XP32Bit and Win7RC 64bit).
If you only have 1 hard disk then you will need to shrink the Vista partition and make a new one to install 7.
The safest way to do this is to use a second hard disk.

I have 2 hard disks. One has plenty of space (500GB) and other is 120GB but Raptor (The 10000 RPM is awesome). So I should put the secont partition on the 500GB?

Yep, that's what i did
I'm not sure about resizing in Vista though - can I assume Vista is on the 120Gig raptor or is the 500Gig your O/S disk?

I run Vista on the Raptor. Is making a new partition easy? Like installing Windows itself, just no formatting involved?

To make a new partition of shrink a partition in vista all you have to do is this.

1. Right click on the My Computer icon and select Manage then Disk Management.

2. Find the drive that you have freed up some space on and right click on it and select Shrink volume.

3. Enter the amount of space you want to shrink the partition by and hit shrink.

Then you can build the new partition in here and reformat it during the install. or make it using the empty space and format it using the install for the new OS
