CD/DVD drive will not recognize a disc

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit
Processor: AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, AMD64 Family 20 Model 2 Stepping 0
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 3686 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6320 Graphics, 384 Mb
Hard Drives: C: Total - 465190 MB, Free - 136247 MB; D: Total - 11196 MB, Free - 1317 MB; F: Total - 953868 MB, Free - 685976 MB; G: Total - 1907694 MB, Free - 598634 MB; J: Total - 476936 MB, Free - 297635 MB; K: Total - 1907725 MB, Free - 765091 MB;
Motherboard: PEGATRON CORPORATION, 2AD1
Antivirus: Avast Antivirus, Updated and Enabled
I have a problem with my CD/DVD drive Windows sees it (assigns drive letter E to it. It opens & closes with no problem either physically or thru Windows.
But when you put in a disc (CD or DVD) the disc does not show up. Any suggestions ???

Windows 10 does not come with a DVD player, DUH they seemed to have done away with Windows Media Player in Win 10. USE VLC it is free and works well.

Agreed,

If your trying to play a Music CD, DVD Video.
You need a Media Player installed.

If it is just a Data CD\DVD you should be able to read it.

I apparently did not make my self clear it's like Windows has a split personality ½ knows it's a drive so it gives it Drive letter but the other half does not know it exists. Any CD,DVD(mini or full size}
click on play it says there is no disc in that drove and to insert a disc I get same message if I try and for mat it

is there something on the disks. what happens if you put a music cd in the drive?
