Angry Problem with freezing windows (Win XP)

Hi there,

I have a very annoying problem that the windows freeze (with white background) when I want to open certain tools (i.e. system restore tool) or if I want to install some programs (i.e. google toolbar). It could be that this has been caused by "CleanUp!" deleting some needed files (I've been refered to here by stoneangel from "cyber safety" forumthe, refer to http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/...hlight=searc-h for our discussion).
Please find attached a screenshot to examplify the issue:

Does anyone know what causes this problem and how to solve it? Or, in specific, which Windows XP file is missing, which one do I have to restored?
I am thankful for any help!

Best regards
Marc

Hi Marc, try this. Go to Start > Run and type:

regsvr32 jscript.dll

and hit Enter. You should see a short message stating the command was successful. Now reboot. Do you still have the blank windows problem?

Hi Ann Marie,

thanks for your tip. Unfortunately the blank window issue still persists. I also tried to replace jscript.dll with download from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dl....shtml?jscript but failed to copy it into c:\windows\system32, because it's used other processes. Do you think it's worth trying to replace this file? (recovery console or something?).

Thanks Marc

Did you get a message saying that the command was successful? If so, the file shouldnt need replacing.

Go to Start > Run and try re-registering all of the below files (hit Enter after each line)

regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 /i mshtml.dll

If you get an error message after hitting enter, post it here please.

Hi Ann Marie,

It worked, great!!!!!! Thank you very much for this valuable tip.

So, there were some registry entries missing... I will check the logs of the Anti-VX2-tools I needed to use, maybe it explicitly deleted these reg-entries out.

Thanks again and best regards
Marc
