Exclamation Mac Filtering

Every time I try to enable MAC Filtering I end up messing with the whole connection. They aren't just the ones being denied to access the network, my Mac address has been denied also.

What is the difference between the Wireless Mac Filtering and Security - Mac Filtering?
How should I do it? Cause the building where I am at has a WiFi Zone but it isn't for everyone to use, just for students who are residing with us. Recently, even other dormitories are connected in our network, so a friend suggested to use Mac Filtering but as I said, we end up messing up the whole network.

Need help with MAC Filtering

If you use MAC filtering, you will need to keep the list of MAC addresses up to date. That seems like it might be a pain, if you have many computers to keep track of.

Enabling WEP or WPA (security) will keep people that don't know the security off the network, but that presents some issues too. You'll either need to give the people who should have access the key and hope they don't share it with those that shouldn't know it. Or you'll need to configure the wireless security on everyone's machine yourself.

Also, what make and model router do you have. It might help us give more specific instructions.

If I use the one under the Security Mac Filtering will it be easy?

And is it possible to Trace an IP Address from a MAC Address?

You'll need to enter the MAC address of every machine that will be connecting. So, if you only have a couple of machines connecting wirelessly, its not a big deal. But, entering the info for hundreds is a bit of work.

What do you mean trace an IP address? At a given time a MAC address is related to a single IP address. In many cases the IP address is assigned by the DHCP server, which is often the router. You can see what IP addresses are assigned to what MAC address in your routers DHCP client list. This is assuming you are using the router as the DHCP server.
