Windows XP internet explorer not working

Hello,
I have a desktop, windows xp and suddenly about 6 days ago internet explorer stopped working.
Isp says there is no connection problem as i'm wireless and my laptop is working ok.
When I try to connect to the internet it seems to start connecting for a few seconds then everything disappears off my monitor.
I cannot do windows update either as I seen to need explorer for this.

Please help anyone

Many thanks Win

Can you get on your network at all?

If you go to the Start menu, select Run, type in cmd

In the Command Prompt window, type in ipconfig /all

There is a space between the g and the /. Post the output here.

It sounds like malware. Have you scanned, and with what program?

malwarebytes.org

Download the free trial, update, then scan. See where we are at after that.

Can you download it from another computer? Then transfer the .exe to your computer, install, and scan.

You can use a flash drive or you can burn it to a CD.

Make sure "WORK OFFLINE" is not checked on Internet Explorer (Having it checked would cause it to ignore the connection)

Good luck!

Thanks The Dude but it won't seem to let me do or check anything.
Even tried installing new antivirus but it's not having it.
Just totally lost on what to do
