Mass Shootings.....

Will someone please remind me which amendment allows a person with a diagnosed mental health problem to legally purchase seven firearms??

Don't know, but they got the wording wrong, it should read, "Every citizen has the right to be shot by a crazed gun carrying fool."

It seems that so many children are disproportionately exercising their right to this weird ruling...

According to World Population Review:
Average (Mean) Annual Death Rate per Million People from Mass Public Shootings (U.S., Canada, and Europe, 2009-2015):
Norway — 1.888
Serbia — 0.381
France — 0.347
Macedonia — 0.337
Albania — 0.206
Slovakia — 0.185
Switzerland — 0.142
Finland — 0.132
Belgium — 0.128
Czech Republic — 0.123
United States — 0.089
Austria — 0.068
Netherlands — 0.051
Canada — 0.032
England — 0.027
Germany — 0.023
Russia — 0.012
Italy — 0.009
In addition, a 2018 CRPC study ranked the U.S. at number sixty-four in the world in terms of mass shooting rates per capita.

Sadly, this has nothing to do with "amendments". Seems to me media would have people believe these horrors are exclusive to the USA. Whether by bombs in Ukraine or a gun in Nashville murder is monstrous and terrifying. This world has some problems.

I can only agree Zip.
I was not trying to emphasize the states in any way. We have had too many of our own horrors right here in NZ..

Any killings are tragic, but using doubtful statistics to say, "Ours are not as bad", is completely misleading.
see https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/un...ath-shootings/

Quote:
The source of the list is a 2015 article published by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), a pro-gun rights nonprofit run by economist John Lott. In his research, Lott found that between 2009 and 2015, the number of people killed in a mass shooting in the United States (in relation to the overall population) was lower than it was in several European countries, including Norway, France, Switzerland and Finland.
Our conclusion is that this is accurate based on the CPRC's definition of a mass shooting, but also extremely misleading. It uses inappropriate statistical methods to obscure the reality that mass shootings are very rare in most countries, so that when they do happen they have an outsized statistical effect. Of the countries chosen by Lott for his analysis, the United States is by some distance the most consistent site of mass shootings.
What is a mass shooting?
Counting mass shootings is a notoriously difficult exercise. For one thing, there is no consensus on what counts as a mass shooting, and what doesn't. The FBI, for example, defines a mass shooting as involving the murder of three people. The pro-gun-control nonprofit group Everytown for Gun Safety defines a mass shooting as one in which four people are killed, not including the shooter. Mother Jones, which tracks mass shootings in the United States, defines the phenomenon as "indiscriminate rampages in public places resulting in four or more victims killed by the attacker." The Mass Shootings in America project, run by Stanford University, defines a mass shooting as one involving three or more victims (not including the shooter) but is not limited to fatalities.

I have always had a healthy disregard for most statistics. This post tends to show why...

I honestly didn't think this is a "we're better than you" thing. Mass shootings - or any shootings - are heinous wherever they occur.

That list I posted was simply the first I grabbed from an interweb search. I really don't understand why all these killings - in churches, schools, theatres....hell, on the plains of Africa - are occurring with such regularity. I got no answers.

Basically the reason for my post.
I have only owned one weapon in my life a .22 Winchester (7 shot?) I was a great shot.
If I had gone nuts and decided to end some small lives I am fairly sure that my kill rate would have been really low. However I still don't understand how a person (anywhere) with mental health problems can legally acquire seven deadly weapons. :?

The above is taken from the Snopes post I linked above, the significant point I see, is the consistency of the shootings of good decent people in the USA.

Surely gun ownership and the ease of purchase must be a factor. A significant factor.

I understand that second amendment to the constitution of the US made in 1791. The US was a wild place then with little law and order, gun fights were the way scores were settled. But we're living in the 21st century now, with the US putting itself in the position of 'Policeman to the World' and yet this situation exists at home.

Cannot the good people of the US see that a further amendment to repeal the second amendment is called for in this day and age. You did it with prohibition, why not with guns?

I'm not trying to put anyone from the USA down, or tell you how to deal with your domestic situation, I only wish to help. I have some good friends there, but I would like to see this consistent killing and resultant fear that results, solved. It's in your hands folks.

Best wishes for a better future.
