File sharing how do I set access to specified folder

Hi guys,

question for you, Im running windows XP and want to enable file sharing of one specific folder over a LAN. The thing is I dont want everybody on the network to have access to it just a specified person. So I turned off simple file sharing and enabled the admin verson.
The folder is located on my c drive and is called c:\downloads. I went to the specified folder right clicked and went to sharing and security clicked the tab permissions and added a guest account with only read permissons.
My question is will this work and how do I set a password so that only this person can access this folder?

Any help would be much appreciated.

PS: do I have to set the permissions for the folders with downloads aswell?

It's different between XP Home and XP Pro. Here is a step-by-step on how to do it.

you can right click the folder and select sharing. You'll have the option to set a password for it, just give the password to that person only and you'll be ok.

No. That would enable any guest to view the folder. You would need to add the users UserAccount name to the permissions and take away permission for Everyone group.

Another option would be to setup an FTP server. It will allow you to set a username & password to the folder.
Checkout Cerberus or FileZilla.

I don't remember that option. What OS and version are you using?
