A couple of Questions
Hi
I just picked up a Gigabyte GA 6VX7 4X for a song, now what I want to know would this be a good board to overclock with? With the latest Bios flash it will support Celerons up to 700MHZ and Pentium III. Which would be a better choice? Here are the specs Well the link will not take you to the spec for this board so you will have to click products and then Socket 370 and the scroll down to the board. Sorry about that. Hi FrostyPhrog,
I'm an AMD guy all the way, but I'll give ya my opinion any way. ![]() I've used Gigabyte motherboards and I think they're a very good one. The specs state the board supports CPU multiplier 3.0~8.0, which would support up to 800MHz, or 8x100. That would be super stable. Now about the CPU. Everything I've read shows that the PIII is the processor to run high end games and programs such as CAD's. The Celeron does pretty good with games but not programs like CAD's. Celerons are good for just dinkin' around IMHO. PIII's are the big guns...but Athlons are bigger...oops, wrong story. ![]() Also, Celerons are real easy to overclock and seem to be real stable when overclocking. The PIII will not overclock as high and will run hotter. If I had my choice I'd go with the PIII...that is if there were no AMD's to be had. ![]() Well, that's my penny's worth. Overclocking is fun. ![]() |

I forgot something. Never flash the BIOS just to flash it. If it will work as is, leave it alone. Most tech people that work for motherboard manufacturers will tell you this. I have only flashed a few times and everything went well. I've heard of many, many flash jobs that went bad.

Hi
Thanks for the reply Junky. If I told you what I paid for this board you would probably said I stole it. ![]() ![]() FrostyPhrog |

Hi
Well Junky just to let you know how things went. I ended up buying a 800MZH Celeron2, the one with a 100mhz bus speed and overclocking it to 1064 at stock voltage. I am currently running it at 133x8. It seems to be running real stable for now. Just thought I would let you know. I will pop in every so often and let you know how things are going. I just won't be around much any more. See you around Junky. FrostyPhrog |

OK FrostyPhrog, thanks for the update.
![]() ...1064 at stock voltage. Dang those Celerons overclock nice! Have fun. ![]() I'm going to mess around with my son's 700 Duron one of these days when he's not looking. hehe ![]() |
