What kind of RAM is this?

It's out of a crappy P75 laptop I'm trying to refurbish and I'm looking for some more of it to give me a chance to run 98SE on it, I don't think 16MB will be enough. The problem with getting more is I don't know what to call it...

Anyone know what they're called?

Post oempcworld.com support

Looks like this machine is using a custom-made module, do you have any
information about the motherboard on your machine?

Not a bit I'm afraid. The thing is I'm sure I've seen this kind of plugin module before. Just typical I'd get something that managed to evade standards, it's both uncanny and annoying...

I've tried to locate information about the manufacturer but have thus far been unable to find anything of real worth. Is there any other numbers or or such on the laptop? Maybe on the bottom? Specific model number?

Lightbulb Belarc Advisor

http://www.crucial.com/support/belarc_download.asp

You may want to download, install and run this. It may turn up a few facts.

On the other front, I dropped a few emails to candidate companys that may be the manufacturer.

Hey Aliasalpha, are you an Aussie?
I found a www.optima.com.au that looks promising.

OK, I've made 2 really high res scans of the memory module

http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/...cs/ChipTop.jpg
http://img40.photobucket.com/albums/...ChipBottom.jpg
(not IMG linked them due to size)

I also ran that Advisor program and came up with a big fat nothing. It DID correctly identify that it had 16MB but that's it. The full report is here

I have a feeling I may have found Optima.com.au before (oh yeah, I am Australian by the way) and tried them but I'll give it another go.

EDIT: Hmm, having looked at the underside of the laptop again I noticed that the large label also said the model number was 'Slimnote-8', isn't it wonderful when the top & bottom of a laptop can't even agree on a name?

Is there any other iformation on the laptop. I've tried running what you have given so far though Google but it's not giving me much to go on. There is a company called Optima that makes memory modules which is making it a bit more difficult. Some older laptops were made by Chicony and had titles like Green 7xx or simliar names. Anything like that?

Do you see the word Impulse or Twinhead anywhere?

No other info except this scan of the labels on the bottom, note how it even argues with itself as to the location of manufacture...

The Opima sticker looks like it was added tot he system after it was build. My guess is that it's not actually an Optima persa, but rather a mass market laptop that is distributed through venders.

Check this link. Is this the same kind of battery that your laptop uses?

That's the battery from the Impulse Slimnote-8 series. If it's the same then were on the right road.

well, well... that DOES look identical to my battery. Slimnote 8 seems more promising. I've just found a few places selling RAM and it's not QUITE the bargain bin prices I was hoping for...

Unfortunately. It's primarily because of the proprietary nature of the design. It's not your atypical SODIMM that most laptops take, but rather a proprietary one that few take.
