Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework

Can you tell me why the above Windows Update is categorized as "optional"? I would think any security update would be Important.

Hard to tell since you didn't tell us which update you are talking about. What is the KB number?

I just looked at my WU history (on two W10 systems) and I don't even see any .NET Framework updates going back to 5/1/18.

That said, a couple things to consider. There are several different levels of security vulnerabilities. If everyone is rated critical or severe or important, it is like calling everything a priority and then nothing really is.

Also, you said it was a "Rollup". Rollups typically are consolidated package of several updates that were previously released individually. In other words, you should have already had all of those individual updates installed. The rollup is just to make sure and they are often released to help those users with new or restored old OS installations get caught up quickly.
