I was wondering if you used that free program, because it helped me to partition a hard drive that I was having problems trying to partition through Windows.
Where do you stand now with that troublesome hard drive?

We lost power here an hour ago. It took me about an hour using my windows disc to boot up on. But when I finally got it to boot up on the disk it was showing windows 7 on drive D instead of C. Then chkdsk came up and it found 4 bad cells. It's up and running now. Once it is up and running I have no problems.

First of all I want to say that I hope that you haven't been affected by those fires.
Are you hearing any clicking noises coming from your boot drive?

I have friends that lived in Paradise, I'm an hour away. It's one of the saddest thing I've ever witnessed. I was in the Carr Fire in Redding. I was one of the lucky ones I still have my home.

No clicking sounds

Sorry to hear about your friends. I'm glad to hear that your home wasn't affected in the previous fire. I was in California for three weeks years ago so I can understand why people want to live there.

Can you hear any clicking noises coming from the hard drive?

no clicking from anything. When I power it up the 2 cdroms light up for a few seconds and then it usually starts booting up. But the last few times I booted up the 2 roms light up and then nothing just a black screen. I made a bootable disk in the control panel but it wouldn't boot up on that. I have it set up to boot from the cd-rom first boot

You might want to try shutting down the computer, and removing the power cord from the case. Ground yourself, and then try plugging the hard drive into a different port to see if that helps. You might even want to try a different cable.
It was noted previously that the hard drive has a bad block. Hopefully you have a clone or a disk image of that drive that you can use to be able to use that computer again if the above doesn't work.
