Hi Nigel, the solution depends on how many files are corrupt however if you send me the log I'll look at it for you. You will find it in your C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. It's called cbs.log. If you have problems accessing it, open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click on the Start button and type cmd.exe in the Start Search box. Rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Copy and paste the below string after the prompt> and hit enter.

notepad C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log

Zip it up (this is important) and email it to me (include a link to this thread) and title your email "Requested Log". My address is anniefriday@xtra.co.nz. The logs are quite large however I will post back when I have had time to check it out.

Nigel I received the file but it's in zipx format and I'm not purchasing WinZip to unzip it. Is there any reason why you couldnt have sent it to a zipped folder (rightclick > Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder)?

Yes but that's a log of a Windows Update installation, not the result of running the System File Checker. Did you run it as below?

Quote:
Click on Start and type cmd in the "Search programs and files" box. Cmd.exe will appear at the top of the Menu. Rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Once the Command Prompt opens, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and hit Enter. The System File Checker will start. It might take a while to complete so be patient. Reboot when it has completed.
