Vista 32bit to 7 64bit Upgrade

I've bought Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade via a student deal, and decided to go for the 64 bit option. I'm currently running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit but the installation package will not allow an upgrade from vista 32 bit. Formatting Vista and running 7 installation (at the same time) I suspect invalidates the product key I have... it simply won't accept it as a valid key.
Short of finding someone with a Vista 64bit install CD to borrow does anyone have a suggestion for a workaround?

Hi Hathaway. You cant used a borrowed DVD. The qualifying operating system must be installed and activated before an upgrade will install. There are no workarounds I'm afraid.
