Can I Upgrade from Vista 32bit to 64bit?

About a year ago I purchased an HP desktop from Best Buy that has Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (32bit). This system currently has 3GB of RAM and can be maxed out to 4GB if I'm not mistaken. I play alot of online gaming (LOTRO / WoW). I would like to increase my performance and the amount of RAM I can hold. I know that 64bit Vista can max out at 8GB of RAM. My question is what is the easiest/cheapest way for me to upgrade my 32bit OS to a 64bit OS so I can increase the amount of RAM in my desktop PC?

Here is my desktop specs...

I look forward to any and all comments/suggestions. Please let me know if you need any other information from me.

Thanks for your time!

Hi manooly, see "Installing a 64-bit version of Windows Vista on computer that is running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista" here.

Wow! That page was pretty confusing. It looks like I cannot upgrade to Windows Vista 64bit from my current Windows Vista 32bit. When I bought my PC from Best Buy it came with Windows Vista 32bit installed already. I wish there was a cut and dry article on if and how I could upgrade my system.

It is cut and dried manooly. You cannot upgrade your 32bit Vista OEM to 64bit Vista. You must purchase a full version of the 64bit version of Vista. See below from the link I posted.

If you have purchased an Upgrade license together with a Windows Vista DVD, you must use one of the following methods.

Method 1
Purchase a full version of the 64-bit version of Windows Vista.

Method 2

1. Remove the 32-bit version of Windows Vista.
2. Install Windows XP.
3. Install the 64-bit version of Windows Vista by using an installation method that is listed earlier in this article.

Ok, thanks! I'm guessing Windows 64 bit costs about $200 right? Do you know of a good place/price to buy Windows Vista 64bit from?
