Blue screen of death

Ok my friend told me to do this to speed up my labtop i have a Acer travelmate 2480 and my friend told me to do this:

1. My computer Crash (reset) when i open the maple story or when i try to attach it.
SOLUTION: u probably have a dual core or AMD proccesor. DO THE FOLLOWING AT YOUR ON RISK!!!! REMEBER IT COULD RUIN YOUR PC.
but i tried it on 3 computers and many other did without a problem.
right click on "My Computer" and go to properties.
then "Advance" tab and click the third button at the end.
There, click "Edit" to edit your boot.ini
you should see the line "
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect" or something like that.
change then noexecute=optin to noexecute=Alwaysoff.

After you have done that, right click on "My Computer" and go to properties again. Click on Hardware tab and then Device Manager.
Find "Computer" and click the "+" to open it. there u should have one thing, right click on it and click Update Driver.
do install from a list or specific location (advanced) then click dont search. then, check "i will choose the driver to install" and select the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface(ACPI)PC. now just continue wiith the installation and restart your pc.

and after i did it i get a blue screen and i cant login on safe mode or anything how can i make my labtop work again any solutions?

I have an Acer as well. It came with the option to make my own - your's didn't or it came with a different operating system and you upgraded to XP using someone else's cd?

Are you running Vista or XP on this system?

Do you have a floppy drive?

Did you try leaving it blank?

Did you try both letter and number?

That won't stop it, It will just make the PC lock up on the BSOD error instead of rebooting itself.

The problem with your answer pew, is that your system is different from OP's and although the solution worked for you, doesn't mean it will work for every computer. Please be careful with what ever help you give, bad advice is not good either.
