Reinstall the video drivers for the display problem.
Before you reformat the drive, which wipes everything off of it including your data...documents, email messages, address book, favorites, music, pictures, etc....be sure you have the disks that came with the laptop and you have the data you want to keep backed up somewhere other than on the harddrive. You'll need a way to reinstall Windows...either an IBM recovery or restore disk or a Windows 98 CD, whatever came with the laptop. Also make sure you have the product key for Windows. If you format the disk and don't have all of that, you'll end up with a blank harddrive with no way to get an operating system on it. The command to format is "format c:" (without the quotes). You cannot format the disk when Windows is running. You must boot with a boot floppy, format and then switch to the CD to reinstall Windows. |
