win xp premature shutdown

at the welcome screen after I select the user name in windows Xp it starts to boot, showing the grass and blue sky screen and then suddenly xp says it is logging off and saving settings. XP then returns to the welcome screen. the computer will not load to the last known good configuration or load in any of the safe modes.

Unhappy win Xp premature shutdown

Sorry Warren, I am no use to you. I have the same problem with my Toshiba 2450 laptop. Running Win XP Sp1, AVG antivirus, and Zone alarm all of which were updated on Sunday morning. No viruses reported and all seemed fine. Turned on this evening and found exactly the same fault as Warren.

Angry win xp premature shutdown

Hi,
I have just tried Control alt delete x2 and it takes me to a differnet login screen tha asks for my password. I have no password so I just click OK and this then takes me to my normal login screen and then on to my original problem

...

I was just going to post this exact problem. Everything worked fine on my friend's computer yesterday, but now, when she logs on, it flashes the screen, then logs back off.

Anybody have any other ideas as to a solution? Thanks.

Mage

Problem solved :-)

I have managed to solve the problem on my Toshiba.

I managed to get hold of a disc that allowed me to boot from a cd running its own OS and from there check for viruses etc. It turns out I had a virus called axuninstall. I was able to research this on the internet and safely remove it. I had to edit the registry before I removed it (which I could do from this disc). All works a treat now.
For your information, the details I found on the virus can be seen on http://www.mac-net.com/684480.page and the disk I used to boot was bought by a friend from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ALMAT-Computers_W0QQsspagenameZl2QQtZkm
Hope that this helps Warren and Magestrike. You can email me direct if you need more info.
Barry
