forced windows 8.1 download

Hi,

Just opened up my pc this morning and a blue ribbon across the screen saying download w8.1 free and go to the store.
I could not remove it and the only option was to go to the store but i disconneted my internet at the wall so it would not automatically start a download.

How can I get rid of this notification when it happens again and how can I get rid of the store app?

Try uninstalling Windows Update KB2871389 and then hide it from re-appearing in the Windows Updates list.

Why not? Where's the proof? You can still download Service Packs for XP, and even the ancient MS-DOS 6.21 and 6.22 updates released in 1994.

win8.1 is a free upgrade putting to rest some of the problems win8 has. If you want to upgrade later, you can just by going to the microsoft store.

Because no two people are exactly the same.

please do not play one site off another. It is a waste of our time and theirs.

As with with any new operating system, there will be issues. Some will have problems and others won't. I upgraded one of my computers and had absolutely no problems. A moderator on this forum upgraded his and had driver problems. You will never get 100 percent feedback one way or another. It is a risk you will have to take for yourself. I recommend upgrading since it is a free upgrade, but in the end it is still up to you. and if you don't, nobody will hold it against you.

I have not mentioned the site name and I am not playing anyone off against anyone.

There are mixed messages on all sites - nobody needs to play this game - thats just the facts.

Just asking questions.

Well I'm not the same, I guess that makes me different. But on the other hand I'm not so different that you'd notice. Perhaps I'm the same?

You should be.After surfing these tech sites all the problems are due to Win 8.1.I have Win 8 x64 V6.9, and it works just fine, but everyday i am bombarded with hurry up and upgrade. My question is: where is the shadow copy of 8.1 going to be at if i digitally download Win 8.1? I will have only 1 copy of 8.1 on drive C and on drive D i will have a shadow copy of old Win 8 and 6 recovery discs of Win 8. I have had to refresh/restore 4 times with Win 8,if that should happen with Win 8.1 how will i fix it when i have no backups of Win 8.1? That is the main reason why i don't upgrade.

That's an idea, but what do you really get that's better than Win 8, and why should you have to look for other ways to have a refresh/restore when you had it all in one before?
