Caching

Hi,

I use Firefox 3.0.11. I dont understand caching if everytime I hit back/forward, the browser re-downloads everything. Can I set something where it won't re-download a page if it's been viewed within the past 30 mins (as most sites that I visit dont update that frequently)?

Thank you for all helpful responses.
