Do I need an antivirus for Windows 10?

I was on ebay and when I opened some items, Chrome gave me a red page saying something about a phishing alert. Am I in trouble?

Do I need an antivirus? If yes, which one? I would prefer a free version. ]

Thanks!

that was just part of chromes own security. you are not in trouble. You will get a lot of false hits because of the way the pages are coded. for more info

Windows defender came with windows 10 and unless you disable it, it should be protecting your computer.

Not if you didn't ignore the warning and closed that page. It sounds like Chrome's phishing filter detected some suspicious objects or links on that page and was warning you not to click on anything, but instead, to just back away. That's a good thing.

I agree with Dan, Windows Defender in Windows 10 should be enabled unless you intentionally disabled it. It is what I use on all my systems (along with Windows Firewall).

But regardless the security program you use, I recommend everyone have an "on-demand" supplemental scanner just to verify all is okay. For that, I recommend Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM). And note while generally it is not recommended to run two "real-time" anti-malware programs at once, MBAM Premium is designed to coexist with other programs, including Windows Defender. So if you like MBAM Free, you might want to consider purchasing MBAM Premium. The primary different is the Premium version has a real-time component that runs all the time.
