Some of the 1525's did have a memory card slot. It should be located on the front right next to headphone jack/microphone and Audio jacks. Sure you don't have one?

Also on the left side where you plug in your charger do you see next where you would plug in your lan cable a slot that looks like you would plug in a telephone cable? As some of these have a internal modem, If you then that could be what it is looking for. AS the modem, even though you don't use needs a driver and as said before the card reader needs one.

Pop-ups, "Found New Hardware - MX390 series printer"; "Found New Hardware - USB,etc "

Murf...sorry for delay. At present the Window/Message pop-up reads,
"Found New Hardware - Windows needs to install driver software for your
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller". I ran a scan for drivers & results
were: 7 out of date & 7 missing drivers: IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers (4 out
of date); Keyboard (1 out of date); Mouse (1 out of date); System
Devices (1 out of date); USB Controllers: Dell Intel Chipset Driver (7 out
of date...with ! mark). Murf, I do, of course, have the memory card slot in
front. On the left side are connections for: AC; USB(2); VGA; Networks;
Modem; HDMI; IEEE 1394; Card reader. On right side are connections for:
S-video TV-out; USB (2). The scan I ran showed an "HP Photosmart D7500
series", which I believe I installed by mistake...thought I had removed it.
Something else...I have a new Apple IPhone, which I set up to receive my
laptop emails. The scan shows" "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver". That's
all I can think of to provide right now, Murf. Trust you'll have ideas from
to go next. Thanks!

Ok lets try and download and install these drivers:

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/...n-1525/drivers

Make sure Vista is selected on the drop down (Change OS)

Try the System Analysis button first, see what it finds: If it identifies your drivers then you know which version you need.

1. Under Modem/Communications (11 files)

Conexant D330, HDA,MDC,v.92 modem,v7.59.0.0,AO1

I don't see any drivers for you card reader so it must use one of the USB within Windows 7
