Some Programs Not Working

When I try to open IE I get the "IE has stopped working" message. These are the problem details:

Firefox, Windows Mail, Command Prompt, and most of my other programs work fine, but IE and Google Sketchup don't. I also repeatedly get error messages for MS Feeds Synchronization not responding.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Hi user123 and welcome. It might be a good idea if I had a look at what is running on your computer. Go here and download DDS to your Desktop and doubleclick on DDs.scr to run it. If your security software includes script blocking features, please disable these before you run this utility. When the scan has finished, two logs will open. Copy and paste both reports in this topic. The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them.

Thank you for the response. However, when I click the link, as is the case with several other downloads, Firefox crashes so I'm not able to download that program right now.

Ok, we will try another utility. Go here and download OTL.exe to your Desktop and doubleclick on it to open it. Scroll down to Extra Registry and click on "Use Safelist" Next click on "Run Scan" When the scan has finished, two logs will open. Copy and paste both reports in this topic. The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them.

Sorry, but that one doesn't work either. Same as last time. Browser closes, and I get the Mozilla Firefox dialog box to send an error report.

How long have you had this problem and have you tried running System Restore?

Ok, well give it a go and let me know the outcome. If it doesnt fix the issue, you will have to download the files I have recommended to another machine and copy them across to yours with a flash drive or similar.

I appreciate your advice, but doesn't a System Restore seem a little extreme? I remember that it took quite a few hours to set up my computer last time, and that's without all the additional programs I've installed since and all the files I'd have to back up... Considering this, would it not be simpler to try one of the links you listed first (using a flash drive to get them to my computer)?

Considering this, would it not be simpler to try one of the links you listed first (using a flash drive to get them to my computer)?

I think you are confusing restoring an operating system to factory default with System Restore which is a Windows feature. More information here. The only software that would have to be reinstalled are programs or updates installed after the date you choose.

I have checked your log and while there are possible areas to investigate, there is nothing concrete showing and no events have been generated in Event Viewer either. I still think that System Restore should be your first step. It will take around 15 minutes to see whether or not it has been successful. Make sure you choose a date about a week before the problem started.

Yes, I had wondered about that. I thought that was what that was called though. :-) Thanks for the advice. I'll try that and let you know what happens.

Interestingly enough, all of my restore points are after this started by about a week. So that was a step backwards. Sorry it took so long; apparently there was a disk check scheduled too. :-P So, any suggestions as to what I should try next?
