Driver Detective downloads the updated drivers but doesn't tell me how to install 'em

Hello CTH'ers!

I recently purchased "Driver Detective", a program that diagnoses which drivers you have are out of date, and provides an easy to use, direct link to download the new drivers. Problem is, not all the drivers come with an installation program.

For example, here's what the Driver Detective Screen looks like, after it has found that my "Via Networking Family Giga bit" driver is out of date:

After this, I download the drivers, which leaves me with these four folders (I am showing both the zipped and unzipped copies):

Now, the contents of the first folder (the other three look similiar to this as well!):

And finally, I wouldn't post without reading the readme first, but since I am not very experienced with advanced computer techniques, this is all gibberish to me!!
**
**
** VT6120/VT6122/VT6130/VT6132 Drivers package
**
** Readme file VIA version
**
** Release 3.1 Oct, 2007
**
**

This package contains the device drivers.

1. Directory structure

After extracting the driver package to a directory (e.g. c:\TEMP\). The
directory structure should be as below:

C:\TEMP\
+---CE4
| +---MSI
| \---RAW
| \---target
| \---x86
| +---Debug
| \---Retail
+---CE5
+---CE6
+---FreeSD
+---LANSVR40.DOS
+---LANTASTI
+---LINUX
+---MACOSX
+---MSLANMAN.DOS
| \---DRIVERS
| +---ETHERNET
| | \---GETND2
| \---NIF
+---NETWARE
| +---CLIENT32
| +---DOSODI
| +---SRVRODI.311
| +---SRVRODI.312
| +---SRVRODI.4
| \---SRVRODI.56
+---PCNFS
+---PKTDRVR
+---PXE
+---PXERPL
+---RPL
+---SOLARIS
+---UNATTEND
| +---NT40
| +---W2000
| +---W9X
| \---XP
+---VISTA
| +---X64
| | \---WINSETUP
| \---X86
| \---WINSETUP
+---XP_Srv2003_2K_ME_98SE
| +---X64
| | \---WINSETUP
| \---X86
| \---WINSETUP
\---XPE

2. User guide for drivers

Please refer to the text files (*.TXT) in each driver subdirectory.
For example, if you are installing Windows platform drivers, please
read the text file in XP_Srv2003_2K_ME_98SE\X86\WINX86.TXT for installation information.
Notice that the BootROM image for both Add-On-Card and LAN-On-Motherboard
are contained in this software package. Please see the text files (*.TXT)
included in the BootROM folders for detail.

3. User Guide for Unattended Mode Installation

Please refer to the text files (*.TXT) in \UNATTEND\ subdirectory.
You could find the sample file in each subdirectory as well.

Can anyone tell me how to manually update my drivers?

that would render it a useless program, once it becomes complicated to install the drivers it provides you.
Rule of thumb, it's not necessary to update drivers unless you start having problems with me, at least that's the rule of thumb I follow.

If you feel you must install the drivers, you'll have to do it by finding the device in Device Manager, right click it, reinstall drivers and the point it to the inf that matches your Operating System. In your case it would be XP_Srv2003_2K_ME_98SE>x86

I agree completely with elephant007. If everything is working to suit you, drivers don't need to be updated.

The time to update drivers is if a newer version provides a feature or function you need.

If you do want to proceed, make sure you know how to use XP's driver rollback feature before you begin.

Agreed with the above posters about if it isn't broken don't fix it. What happens when you click the + icon that says Click for Driver installation options?
