stop: 0x0000007a to stop: 0x000000ED error?

my girlfriends computer is having problems, when she turned it on it went to the desktop then got slow and then showed the blue screen of death the stop code was stop: 0x0000007a then she restarted it and it went directly to the blue screen of death and it showed stop: 0x000000ED, but she didnt upgrade to xp because she already had it on there, and it wolnt let her go into safe mode to check the tools tab under the properties of her hard drive to check for volume errors, i was gona try to go into the bios and see if it could detect a error. have any sugestions? thanx

That error is most likely due to a failing or corrupt drive. You're going to need to use the windows cd to start the machine and use the recovery console to run the "chkdsk /r" utility.
