Backup With

Hello,

Using Windows Backup and Restore utility (in the Vista-Ultimate control panel), I created a backup of the system and then the files; and I scheduled the backup to run weekly. The data are saved on a hard drive that is different than my OS/system.

Will the backup only update files which have been changed? Or will the backup just completely backup all files again? Surely this is a "smart" backup utility and it won't try to backup all the files again, right? I ask because while I have control over the files which are backed up, I don't have any control over the functionality of whether all files are backed up or just those that have changed, unlike some backup utilities.

Thx.

Scott

Thx Miz. Pretty clear: It only backups files which have been altered, which is what should happen.

personally jsmartin22 I have taken to using ACRONIS. I also backup to a second Hard Drive and ACRONIS is superb, I used to use GHOST but ACRONIS beats it hands down. Incrementals etc are very easy to set up, the only downside being that in Windows Vista Ultimate after a ACRONIS Recover VISTA takes you to its Recovery Screen with the option to start windows normally. No doubt Acronis will iron this out.

Pip,

Thx for the suggestion. Like you I also backup to a 2nd (internal) hard drive. I don't have any major issue with the Windows Backup utility so far--it does to incremental backups. However, it doesn't seem to offer much flexibillity, eg, if you want to backup only selected folders or files or if you want to backup files after a specific time. Any particular reason why you favor Acronis? Thx again for the suggestion.
